Jewelry
"When it comes to contemporary
jewelry, the underlying reason for carrying it is
that it is either incredibly beautiful or incredibly
interesting."
Bob Trezise, Jewelry Bulyer
We
strive for a wonderful mix of jewelry styles. When
considering jewelry for our collection we want the
pieces to be highly interesting or truly beautiful.
The Phoenix takes great pride in our
jewelry roots. Among the first jewelry that we
carried were pieces from the personal collection of
Nepenthe's founder, Lolly Fassett. Lolly was an avid
collector of fine Native American jewelry. We still
hear stories of southwestern traders pulling up to
Nepenthe and spreading out a Navajo rug covered with
silver and turquoise, hoping to catch Lolly's eye.
Pueblo and Navajo jewelry, both traditional and
contemporary, continue to be a cornerstone of our
jewelry collection.
We represent contemporary studio
jewelers of national prominence, including Barbara
Heinrich, Thomas Mann, and Sydney Lynch. Our metalsmiths with local roots include Karl Lee, Goph
Albitz, Tom Lutz, and Lorena del Campo. And we are
always on the look-out for new and exciting jewelry
artists. The goal with contemporary jewelry is to
present a wide variety of great work, focusing on
design and craftsmanship.
The rich and colorful world of ethnic
adornment makes up the third area in our jewelry
collection. Our ethnic pieces come primarily from
Mexico, North Africa, India, Tibet, and Nepal.
The combination of these three
distinctive worlds of jewelry: Native American,
Contemporary Studio and Ethnic, helps give our
collection a unique blend. Above all, we never
forget that this store is based on Lolly Fassett's
diverse interests, and she was interested in
everything that was beautiful. |
