Toys and Gifts for Children
"I'll never forget going into
this wonderful toy store in Pennsylvania when I was
a child, and looking up at the most beautiful toys,
dolls suspended from rafters, color everywhere.
Here, I am always trying to replicate that
experience from my own childhood."
Cay Fisher - Toy Buyer
With
that child's eye view in mind, buyer Cay Fisher has
created an eclectic wonderland of beautifully
designed European toys, educational games, and
"weird science" novelties that appeal to the playful
instincts in all of us.
"The point of the toy department,"
Cay says, "is to have fun - for grownups looking for
a quality gift for their children, or something
whimsical for themselves."
As in all departments in the Phoenix,
colorful displays invite the touch and stimulate the
eye. And they are constantly changing. "Sometimes I
come in at 2 in the morning to work on displays,"
Cay admits. "It's the most fun part of my job - more
like playing."
The Phoenix Shop employs a team of
six buyers. Cay credits the whole team for the
shop's unique collection. "It's never just one
person's idea," she says. "You have input from so
many areas. We share our ideas - retro, contemporary
and old-world - and pick from them. It's all very
collective, lots of brainstorming."
Of the Phoenix Shop experience, Cay
adds, "when you come in the door, it's just magical
- it's an exciting retail experience. You know
you'll leave with something to delight you!"
And she cautions, "Don't rush the
experience! This is a place to linger." |
